Ever had an awesome creative business idea in mind but didn’t know how and where to start? Me too! So here is how I started mine:
1 Define your mission and vision. This is no news, everybody talks about this. But it is SO important in order to get your message across the right way. Take your time with this one, because all your content will result from here. I will make a blog post going into detail about this topic because it is such an important point, so stay tuned for that 🙂
2 Get a clear vision of what you want your brand/business to become. Make a list of your goals in one year, 5 years, and 10 years. This really helped me check what I want to achieve in the future and gave me kind of a guide on where to steer my ship. You most probably will discover wishes and visions you never knew you had for your future.
3 Define the value your clients have from buying your work. What makes you unique or stand out? What is it that you do differently than others in your field? Look at your competition and find out what is it that you like about them / their work and what you would do differently.
4 Create a Logo and Branding Sheet. And if you don’t know how to do it or need guidance hire me 😉 Create a Moodboard with colors, typography, etc. so that all of your content always stays “on brand”. That way, people will eventually recognize your signature style which will make you stand out from the mass. That’s the ultimate goal! A great source for inspiration is Pinterest (of course), Behance, Dribbble, Unsplash, and Instagram (search for hashtags!)
5 Get yourself a website to sell or showcase your creative goods. It makes you feel more trustworthy to the potential customer and gives you a space that feels like your own, where you can get creative and don’t have to follow any algorithms.
And finally: Have FUN! At the end of the day, you chose this road to live your dream and create beautiful things. So don’t get caught up in the details, not everything has to be perfect right away. If you never hit that publish button because you think that you’re website doesn’t look professional enough or because the wording of that one sentence isn’t perfect yet, then you will not come far. Or not even start! This is an adventurous journey and you are allowed to improve yourself over time, nothing is perfect from the beginning. So take a leap of faith and hit PUBLISH and live your dream life!
